Daaria: Ancient History

The history of Daaria can be broken up into two eras, the Eldest Days and the Second Sun. A sizable portion of the Eldest Days was not recorded on paper, due to the races not developing their own alphabet or record of time until much later. The first calendar was created by the Elviri, and is what’s used by most of the races of Daaria.

The Eldest Days began with the emergence of the First Ones and the creation of Daaria. The First Ones would go on to create the different races of Daaria and be known as gods. Each of the races developed their civilizations in peace, their gods intermingling with the people in different ways.

The Eldest Days were dominated by the Elviri-Asaszi wars. The other races kept to themselves, avoided the lands of Central Daaria, and developed their cultures. The Asaszi were a bloodthirsty people, and quickly grew bored of their peaceful lifestyles. They began raiding the Elviri lands, taking slaves and destroying settlements. The Elviri were slower to develop their civilization, and it only took the Asaszi a handful of months to enslave the large majority of the Elviri race and lock away their gods in caverns deep underground. Those that weren’t enslaved fled to the forests of Elimaine, where they rebuilt their settlements and began preparing for war.

For years, the Elviri and Asaszi clashed and fought. The Asaszi controlled much of central Daaria, naming the land Pyredessi. Those who were taken as slaves staged their own revolts throughout the years, but never found any success. It wasn’t until nearly two hundred years after the initial strike that the slaves managed to overthrow their oppressors and escape.

Following the revolt, the Elviri-Asaszi war only got worse. Many of both races were slain. Their warring kept on for many centuries. The Asaszi attempted to ally with the Barauder from the Black Lakes, but they were met with hostility. The Asaszi were eventually pushed out of Pyredessi, and took refuge in the massive rainforests to the south, which they named Moonyswyn. Between the rainforests and the shore of the ocean, the Asaszi created their new home.

Soon after the Asaszi abandoned the fertile lands of Central Daaria, the Proma were spun into existence. They allied with the Elviri to help fight against the Asaszi. With the aid of the Proma, the Elviri were able to drive the Asaszi to near-extinction. Afterwards, Daaria saw a time of peace and prosperity. Art, music, and science were made and pursued. The Hunting Throne was officially founded in Elviri lands.

The Asaszi still pursued war with the Elviri and Proma, and eventually did manage to harness powerful magic that could turn the tide and grant them victory over their foes. This magic threatened the gods, and their life essences began to drain away. Fearing death, they left Daaria through various means, such as boarding ships and sailing into the unknown. Before she left, Ceyo, the god-queen of the Elviri, sent forth one of her trusted soldiers, a mortal Elviri whose name has been lost to time, to confront the Asaszi in Moonyswyn.

There are no recorded details of what happened in Moonyswyn, but the effects were seen and felt throughout Daaria. Magic vanished from the world, and the land was torn asunder. In Central Daaria, the ground crumbled and waters from the north rushed down to form the Hourglass Lakes. To the southeast, massive mountains rose from the land, separating Kherizhan from the rest of Daaria. A second sun rose in the sky, thus beginning a new era of Daarian history known as the Second Sun.
